Concrete planning guide

A basement finish should follow the moisture question

An attractive basement floor finish depends on more than its color. The moisture and existing surface need review before the owner selects a bonded system.

What to record

  • Share flood, leak and coating history, slab age if known, and whether the room is normally conditioned.
  • Identify flooring, adhesive or treatment already present.
  • Preserve actual test reports with their locations and dates.

The decision to discuss

Ask which moisture evaluation and preparation the proposed system requires. Resolve active water concerns with the appropriate specialists. Concrete repair or coating should not be described as mold remediation or a radon mitigation system.

Why the surrounding context matters

Moisture requirements depend on the selected flooring or surface system. Keep reported test methods, locations and results with the proposal. A dry-looking photograph and a documented evaluation answer different questions; neither should be described as the other.
