Concrete planning guide

A spring record for concrete beside garden beds

Garden beds, soil and edging can hide a concrete boundary after winter. Recording the relationship helps a reviewer understand water routing and the transition without assuming the soil caused the damage.

What to record

  • Show the slab edge, bed level and any visible outlet.
  • Note recent landscaping changes and ordinary pooling.
  • Preserve a safe view of broken edges before mulch or new soil covers them.

The decision to discuss

Ask whether grade or edging changes should be coordinated with concrete work. A local patch does not establish the suitability of surrounding soil or resolve every water path. Define retained landscaping and intended repair limits together.

Why the surrounding context matters

Exterior concrete can be exposed to water and freezing conditions. Surface loss needs review alongside that exposure, but appearance alone does not establish its cause. Keep the physical condition, water observations and proposed maintenance changes separately recorded.
