A useful seasonal movement record for concrete

A crack photographed once cannot explain whether a slab changes through the year. A dated observation record makes a repair discussion more useful without pretending to diagnose the cause.

What to record

  • Choose a safe, repeatable camera position and include the same fixed doorway or step in every view.
  • Record rain, snowmelt, recent loading and whether a door began catching.
  • Keep original files so the sequence can be checked.

The decision to discuss

Separate a change in appearance from a measured change in position. A reviewer may need a site visit before selecting a rigid repair or considering the support below the slab. Do not repeatedly fill a joint merely to make the pictures look cleaner.

Why the surrounding context matters

Concrete can change with moisture, temperature, load and support conditions. A visible crack therefore needs context before a repair method is selected. Use the observations below to explain the question; leave the project-specific diagnosis to the appropriate review.
