Concrete planning guide

Ask a resurfacing contractor about what stays beneath the finish

A finish proposal should explain the concrete it relies on. The owner needs to know whether the existing layer is being evaluated, removed or simply covered.

What to record

  • Bring photographs of peeling, previous patches and wet areas to the discussion.
  • Ask the contractor to identify the boundary of substrate work separately from the decorative treatment.
  • Save any written product-system recommendation.

The decision to discuss

Compare proposals by their preparation and retained layers before comparing colors. If one scope includes removal and another does not, they are different projects. Request an explanation of the suitability of the concrete that remains.

Why the surrounding context matters

Moisture requirements depend on the selected flooring or surface system. Keep reported test methods, locations and results with the proposal. A dry-looking photograph and a documented evaluation answer different questions; neither should be described as the other.
