Concrete planning guide

Decide whether to retain one concrete panel

Keeping a sound panel can reduce removal, but its relationship to the new work matters. Review the retained panel as part of the finished assembly rather than as an isolated saving.

What to record

  • Show its joints, edges, level and visible condition beside the area proposed for replacement.
  • Identify water paths and anticipated traffic across the transition.
  • Share the history of any earlier repair on the retained panel.

The decision to discuss

Ask how the new work will meet the old panel and what could change the retention decision. A proposal should explain the evidence for keeping it. The finished boundary needs both a functional detail and an appearance expectation.

Why the surrounding context matters

Joints can serve different purposes in a concrete assembly. The work should identify the actual junction and how the retained surfaces relate to it. A filled line and a functioning joint are different observations; ask for the intended detail before approving the finish.
