Concrete planning guide

Document a basement entry before treating its concrete

A bulkhead or basement entrance combines exterior water exposure, doors and concrete transitions. A review needs the whole entry relationship rather than an isolated crack picture.

What to record

  • Show the exterior approach, entry cover, steps and interior junction.
  • Note when moisture appears and whether door operation changed.
  • Avoid entering damaged or flooded areas and preserve safe access for a qualified review.

The decision to discuss

Ask which parts of the assembly need separate attention before sealing or resurfacing. A treatment to concrete does not establish the condition of the doors, flashing or drainage. Define those boundaries in the scope.

Why the surrounding context matters

Exterior concrete can be exposed to water and freezing conditions. Surface loss needs review alongside that exposure, but appearance alone does not establish its cause. Keep the physical condition, water observations and proposed maintenance changes separately recorded.
