Concrete planning guide

Investigate a hollow-sounding overlay before adding another layer

An overlay may look intact while portions have lost their bond. A review should establish the extent of the problem before proposing a new decorative surface.

What to record

  • Provide a whole-area photograph and a history of when peeling or separation appeared.
  • Share existing product and installation records.
  • Describe any sound differences you already noticed without undertaking destructive testing yourself.

The decision to discuss

Ask whether the scope includes a bond evaluation and removal of unsuitable material. A new top layer cannot establish that an old layer is sound. The proposed system must fit the remaining substrate and actual exposure.

Why the surrounding context matters

Moisture requirements depend on the selected flooring or surface system. Keep reported test methods, locations and results with the proposal. A dry-looking photograph and a documented evaluation answer different questions; neither should be described as the other.
