Concrete planning guide

Make a crack map before requesting a repair scope

Several close-ups can accidentally make one crack look like several different defects. A simple plan of the affected floor helps connect the photographs to the right location.

What to record

  • Sketch doors, columns, drains and the rough perimeter.
  • Give each defect a letter and photograph that letter beside the crack without covering it.
  • Describe raised edges separately from a visible line in an otherwise level surface.

The decision to discuss

The map is a communication aid, not a structural drawing. Keep the proposed repair areas and any areas excluded from the quote visible on the same plan. Ask for clarification if the scope addresses only part of the pattern.

Why the surrounding context matters

Concrete can change with moisture, temperature, load and support conditions. A visible crack therefore needs context before a repair method is selected. Use the observations below to explain the question; leave the project-specific diagnosis to the appropriate review.
