Concrete planning guide

Review a stair tread and its support as separate questions

A damaged tread surface and a moving stair assembly are different problems. The first photograph set should show both the visible defect and the larger stair arrangement.

What to record

  • Include the landing, risers, side faces and where the stairs meet the building or ground.
  • Note movement already observed during normal use without deliberately loading a damaged stair.
  • Photograph handrails only as context.

The decision to discuss

Ask whether surface repair is appropriate after the supporting assembly is reviewed. A concrete repair does not automatically address handrail, stair geometry or accessibility requirements. Additional professional review may be needed for those elements.

Why the surrounding context matters

Concrete can change with moisture, temperature, load and support conditions. A visible crack therefore needs context before a repair method is selected. Use the observations below to explain the question; leave the project-specific diagnosis to the appropriate review.
